La crisis económica ha hecho que muchas personas empiecen a plantearse otra manera de intercambiar bienes y servicios, lo que está fomentando la creación de los llamados "Bancos de Tiempo".
En estos Bancos de Tiempo se suprime el dinero como tal a la hora de contratar servicios o comprar algo: la moneda de cambio es el propio tiempo de las personas implicadas. Una especie de intercambio de favores mutuo. Como se hacía antiguamente.
Lo que se intercambia puede ser cualquier cosa, desde clases de inglés hasta arreglos de jardinería, pasando por cuidar niños o dar masajes.
Un ejemplo de ello es la reciente creación de la Comunidad de Intercambio "Siete Picos", que pretende fomentar el intercambio en diferentes pueblos de la Sierra del Guadarrama (Madrid). Este "Banco de Tiempo" ha nacido hace poco y está basado en la "MORA", la "moneda" que mide la duración de los servicios. El término viene de la mezclar las palabras "moneda" y "hora", haciendo alusión a la esencia de este tipo de intercambios.
